Our politicians are a shame

I don’t like writing about politics on my blog but it’s a subject that is common in Kenya now, so I cannot avoid it completely because politics is a major contributor of shame in our beloved country.

There are shameful things that are common with our politicians especially during campaigns. Over the last 5 years, most of them did very little for their constituents, its not that they did not have the resources to improve lives of their constituents. They had CDF funds to use, instead most of them employed their relatives to control the funds, some of them could not account for some funds until people complained and the government had to intervene. Those in the government also had all the resources at their disposal but mostly used them in a biased way. Infrastructure in some areas improved and others got worse.

Now the same politicians are back to beg for votes from us, they came with all promises of things they will do. How they will improve our standards of living, give us better roads, starts water and electrification projects where these basic needs are not available (imagine 40 years after independence) and all good things they have been promising for years.

Some are so shameless, when they smell defeat from new opponents they decide to you use uncouth method like buying voters cards from poor people, hire thugs to beat their opponents, some go to an extent of stealing votes and doctoring voter’s register.

I would like to urge our politicians to be more civilized and show some maturity by respecting voters who are your employers and not the other way, please also accept voters choices. Why force yourselves on people?
